Children
with Special Needs
During
2001 Andrea Foundation together with Children's Help Net
began an initiative for children with special medical needs.
Iulian
Leonte lost his right arm just above the elbow after being
electrocuted while playing near a high voltage transformer
when he was 9 years old. Iulian, now 13, is the first recipient
to benefit from this initiative. Using funds provided by
Children's Help Net, the Andrea Foundation arranged for Iulian
to receive a prosthetic arm and related medical services
in February 2002.

In
February, 1999 Children's Help Net Director Dr. Daniel
Levine and Andrea Foundation Director Mr. Paul Florea had
a dream: To establish a nationwide network of Computer
Clubs in Romania. Today there are 18 Computer
Clubs for Children and approximately 2,000 children
benefiting from this program.
How
you can help: Andrea
Foundation is looking for corporate sponsors in
Europe for the Computer Clubs program. Help
us expand this program by donating laptop computers,
wireless access points, laser printers with network
cards, lcd projectors, video cams, digital cameras,
and funds to pay for Internet
connect time. Companies located in the United States
who would like to help should contact Children's
Help Net Foundation in New York.

Donation
of Clinical Diagnostic Reagents by Randox Corporation
Children's
Help Net recently helped initiate and coordinate the donation
of clinical diagnostic reagents for blood testing by Randox
Corporation, a UK company, in cooperation with the Andrea
Foundation and the Ministry of Health. Recipient institutions
are identified based on need by the Ministry of Health and
the Andrea Foundation. This is an on-going program. |
Donation
of Dialysis Machines by The Rogosin Institute
Children's
Help Net and the Andrea Foundation coordinated the donation
of 35 Baxter dialysis machines by The
Rogosin Institute to the Ministry of Heath in Romania.
Children's Help Net payed for the shipping. The machines
were shipped in April 2003. SofMedica, the Baxter distributor
for Romania,
cleared the donation through customs, delivered the machines
to the recipent institutions identified by the Ministry of
Health and set them up. Hospitals in Ramnicu, Valcea, Slatina,
Braila, Resita and Turnu Severin are now treating patients
with these machines. These machines have permiited the recipient
institutions to reduce the number of shifts required to treat
their patients and optimization of the dialysis perscription
for each patient.
